About Us:
Kilkenny Steiner School offers a unique non-denominational and creative approach to primary education in the South East.

Working with Steiner / Waldorf methods of learning, we have a “Head, Heart and Hands” approach to education which combines academic, social, practical and artistic development within a rich curriculum. Our classes are small and offer a high degree of individual attention.

Our school has a committed teacher group and has been operating for about 8 years. It is set in a rural environment with many opportunities for creative play. Formal lessons begin at about 7 years, before that the emphasis is on learning through rhythmic activity and play both inside and out. We are hoping to be able to offer forest lessons as part of this from Autumn 2018.

We are currently looking for new admissions for children between 4 and a half and 7 this August, and welcome applications for children in other age groups.

“Our highest endeavour must be to develop free human beings who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their life.” Rudolf Steiner

“Education is about the lighting of fires , not the filling of pails.” W.B. Yeats

“Time to Play” an Evening About Play

Kilkenny Steiner School presents an evening with documentary filmmaker Kim Hunter exploring the importance of play in childhood.

There will be a screening of the documentary “Time to Play” followed by Q&A with the film’s director.

Pop up cafe and play ideas to take home.
All are welcome.

Venue: KCAT, Abbey Meadow, Callan
Date: Thursday 23 November at 7.30 pm
No charge –Suggested donation of €5 welcome

Kim Hunter, the film’s director and producer, has been working with young children her whole life, but formally in the classroom for the last two decades.

The 45 minute documentary film stems from her concerns about the ways our culture is orienting our thoughts about what is best for children.

“My hope with this film is that it can be used as a ‘spring board’ for conversations about what we might do better in the area of meeting the developmental needs of the early years of childhood.”

Our days are so over-scheduled that the opportunities for ‘down time’ for most people just don’t exist in a healthy way anymore.  The biggest effects of this imbalance are on the youngest ones among us who are victims of our society’s speed and competitiveness.

All are welcome!

Kilkenny Steiner School announces new Féileacán Class

Kilkenny Steiner School is delighted to welcome enrolments for a new initiative that will accept children of 5 and 6 six years of age in an ‘Infants’ style year, preparing the children for formal schooling from age 7. Packed with outdoor activities, crafts, art, storytelling, and lots of play, Féileacán will be led by experienced National School Teacher Conor Boland, who has been teaching in Kilkenny Steiner School for 5 years.
“This is an exciting new initiative that we hope will make Steiner Waldorf Education more accessible to all families,” said Jeffrey Gormly, a member of the Management Committee of the school. “As a parent of a child in the school, I had very little knowledge of experience of this kind of education, but after nearly four years I am convinced that any child, regardless of personality, would thrive here as my daughter does. The curriculum really ties in with her personal development, its very empowering of her own learning ability, and the location of the school, in an orchard and garden, is unbeatable.”
Kilkenny Steiner School is holding an Open Day on Saturday July 1st from 11am-1pm for children and their families interested in joining the Féileacán group.

Kilkenny Steiner School is looking for a Class 1 Teacher

Kilkenny Steiner School is seeking a Class 1 Teacher to start as soon as possible. We are a small, but growing school set in the beautiful grounds of Camphill Community Ballytobin which caters for Classes 1 to 6. There is also a Steiner kindergarten close by.

Kilkenny Waldorf School

We are looking for a highly motivated, trained and experienced Steiner teacher to take on a small class 1 of 8 children which will become a combined Class 1 & 2 in 2016. The ideal candidate will be at home in delivering the curriculum and in engaging children in musical and artistic activity. A high standard of English is required. Fluency in German or Irish would be an advantage. Because of the size of the school there is a good deal of working together with other teachers and parents on planning and creating festivals and fund raising.

You must be an EU Citizen and able to relocate.

If you are interested please apply via email with your curriculum vitae and a letter of motivation by 25 September 2015 to kilkennysteinerschool@gmail.com
